Dr. Brendan Smith is a Board Certified Orthodontist skilled in all variations of braces and Invisalign. He is passionate about providing patients the freedom to smile in a personalized environment (which is the reason he opened his own practice and named it Freedom Orthodontics.)
Dr. Smith began his schooling at Brigham Young University and received his degree in Zoology. Not to be confused with Zoo-keeping, although Dr. Smith and his wife love animals and keep a menagerie at home.
After completing Dental School cum laude at Virginia Commonwealth University. Dr. Smith gained further education and hands on experience at a General Practice Residency at the Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu, HI. This hospital-based residency gave him training in treating medically compromised patients and more advanced training in all phases of dentistry. This additional training allows him to better coordinate with other dentists and specialists. It also cemented his desire to become an Orthodontist.
After the beautiful residency in Hawaii, he traveled across the ocean and land to his Orthodontic Residency at Columbia University in New York City, the respected Ivy League program with a history of training highly qualified dentists chaired by a former head of the American Board of Orthodontics. At Columbia he completed an additional 3 years of education, was co-president of the Orthodontic class and gained training in all areas of orthodontics including: Early interceptive, adolescent, adult and surgical orthodontic treatments. Upon graduation, Dr. Smith underwent testing to become Board Certified by the American Board of Orthodontics. This voluntary accreditation was an important goal to show that he is able to be held to the highest standards of his profession.
Dr. Brendan Smith lived in Texas earlier in his life, and decided to return to the state where he felt at home. He practiced for 5 years in Midland, TX to gain great experience in patient management, then relocated to the Leander/Cedar Park to establish a permanent home. With family ties to Austin, Dr. Smith and his wife, Tamara, decided to relocate and make the Leander/Cedar Park area their permanent home with their lively pets.
Dr. Brendan’s dream was always of owning his own practice where he could provide the highest quality of care for his patients. He believes having your own practice allows you to manage patient care from start to finish without the corporate pressure to cut costs at the expense of the patient care. His father’s medical career taught Brendan to always put the patient’s welfare and needs first. This is a value that has always driven his treatment philosophy with every patient receiving the same detail and respect no matter the background or circumstances. Dr. Smith loves watching the effects that a beautiful smile has on his patients young and old. He feels a confident smile can change the direction of any life to a happier course by gaining self-esteem and allowing your personality shine. Ultimately “letting your smile to set you free.”

PAMELA WOOD-WEGNER, RDA , Practice Administrator
I grew up in the beautiful city/state of Bend, Oregon and moved to the Cedar Park area in 1982. I married my best friend from high school in 2015. Between us, we have 5 children, two dogs and 3 chickens. My hobbies are spending time with my family, snow skiing, motorcycle riding and relaxing on the beach. I began my career in the Orthodontic industry in 1994 and have worked in all areas of the field. I started with Freedom Orthodontics before we saw our first patient and I am honored to have found a practice that is fun, professional and provides the best quality of care! I strive to assist our patients with a pleasant and happy experience all while they are setting their smile free. Let us set your smile fee!
LAUREN SLATTEN, RDA , Lead Orthodontic Assistant
Hello y’all! I was born in Florida but raised in the great state of Texas starting at the age of three years old. I grew up in a small town, Elgin. Before my junior year of high school, my family and I moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. I graduated high school in Ohio and found myself back in Texas after being recruited by The University of Texas to play softball. It was a huge dream and goal of mine to attend The University of Texas. My junior year of college, I transferred to St. Edwards University where I continued my education in biology and finished out my college softball career. During my time at St. Edwards University I met my fiancé, Nathan. He played baseball at my university’s number one rival school. We quickly fell in love and now live in our cute apartment together with our two fur babies, Sadie and Ellie, in Leander, Texas. After college, I wanted to continue my education in the dental hygiene field, but quickly found myself in the orthodontic field. I have assisted in the orthodontic field since the summer of 2017. I love Orthodontics because as an assistant you learn so much knowledge and develop relations with the patients. My favorite part as an orthodontic assistant is watching a patient’s journey from beginning to end – watching their confidence unfold as their beautiful smile develops.
